How to make a Mule or Mixed Media

This was not at all easy to paint - weird angles. Started out watercolor and ended up mixed media. Actually, that would be a good name for the painting. Anyway, it's my offering for today. UUUUgghhh

Daily Painting

O.K.  To be perfectly honest, this is yesterdays painting. There will be one for today before I go to bed. Busy day with gallery meeting, drive to Newport AR ( forget why) and drive home to Hardy. Feed foal, run around pasture with foal, put him back in the barn. Collapse at table, turn computer on .... and so it goes.
Oh, and I bought a paper cutter for $25.00. Great eh ?

Todays Painting ~ acrylic 14" x 18"

I snuck up on these two in the shed and scared Birdie to death. Wasn't very fair of me really. Birdie didn't know me that well and her colt was only a day old. He's now a yearling and all over the place. Birdy, named after 'Mine that Bird',  2010 Derby winner now pushed me around like everybody else.

Two New Paintings for Your Amusement

Featuring the fabulous Chico the miniature colt, these two paintings represent my continued amusement with his every little move. Not that he climbs into boxes mind you, but inside my studio he does.
Both of these measure 12" x 24" on stretched canvas.

Chico on the ball

Another painting featuring our cheeky little Chico. One morning I found him climbing up the round bale of hay. I wanted to see what he'd do when he got to the top of it, eaten down to about 3 feet off the ground, but when he saw me he forgot all about the climbing. Forever a mystery , but the inspiration for another Chico painting.

Dance beneath the diamond skies

Another in the series of whimsical horse paintings. This little guy's name is Eclipse and he was actually using his front feet to aggravate his Mother. I took his pose and use it as a dance theme.

Untitled 16" x 20" oil on Canvas

My son has borrowed my camera, so I used my iPhone for this pic. Painting has final touches to go. Hurry up son......
I took photo's on Cannon Beack in May of this year, and of course it was cloudy. I brightened everything up a bit and made the famous rock larger.....

Sunday 10 2010

A couple of weeks ago our little mare Stinkweed birthed a tiny little colt - he measures about 23" at the withers . Thats the part where the end of the mane meets the shoulder. The little fella has such an outgoing personality. He's totally fearless, but then he hasn't met the big guys yet.....
Here is a painting of him sleeping on a leaf. Imagination at work, please .  Painting measures 20" x 16" on stretched canvas.

A new painting and a painting re-visited

I'm fooling around with this painting, as the colt was lost in a mass of colors. I love that but it's hard on the eye, and some what incorrect. Going to do a little more to it to pull it together better, and get rid of the slight 'halo' effect.

Got this one finished late last night. It is 18" x 23" on stretched canvas, and entitled 'Tails High'.

New Painting

I started this one in December, and finally got it finished yesterday. The horses in the painting could never actually exist in harmony, the mare, the stallion, and the gelding, but as I've had them for the same amount of time, and they are good friends of mine, I can wish..

Turf

My recently finished painting 'Turf'. Measures a huge 32" x 40" on stretched canvas. I love going to the races, and have a few rolls of film - this painting is actually a composite from a couple of photo's. I killed the color, then reinvented it.

At the Water

Just finished this painting - oil on canvas 24" x 36". I did a watercolor study a while ago, and sold it. Come to think of it, I've sold the horse too.
